Saint Jean du Bruel

OT Larzac_Vallée-St_Jean_du_Bruel_DSF522

Between Causses and Cévennes, Saint-Jean-du-Bruel is a picturesque village in the Aveyron, located south-east of the Massif Central, in the green valley of the Dourbie at an altitude of 520 m. Saint-Jean-du-Bruel and the nearby village of Sauclières are the only two Cévennes communes in Aveyron. The two towns form an enclave in the Gard department.

Saint-Jean-du-Bruel is a border town between the great Causses (Causse du Larzac, Causse Bégon and Causse Noir), and the last foothills of the Cévennes. The village is at the crossroads of four departments Aveyron, Gard, Hérault and Lozère, between the limestone plateaus of the Causses to the west, the Cévennes reliefs and the Aigoual massif to the east.

Crossed by one of the most beautiful rivers in France, the Dourbie, the village benefits from a contrasting climate: cool nights and hot days in summer, mild and pleasant spring, autumn rich in colors and harsh winter.

The village has a rich historical and industrial heritage, in which you can discover:
- Les Halles dating from the 18th century, a place for meetings, celebrations and conviviality.
- The two bridges spanning the Dourbie, the 13th century Old Bridge and the 18th century Pont Neuf.
- The parish church of Saint John the Baptist rebuilt in 1710.
- The old bridge mill dating from the 13th century and completely refurbished in 2000.
